7.2 Entrance handrails

Handrails must be oval in section with a major axis of 30mm to 35mm.

Doors with handrails attached must be as firm as possible without compromising the smooth operation of the door.

Handrails fitted to doors must be fitted in an F shape with the top horizontal bar 900mm from the floor level, the second horizontal bar should be 600mm from floor level. These horizontal bars should extend inside the bus to guide people to the internal handrail system.

The vertical part of the handrail should be not more than 100mm from the outside of the bus.

There must be a minimum clearance of 45mm (preferably 50mm) between handrails and any adjacent surfaces.
