Reaching distances of wheelchair users

Each square on the drawing represents 200mm x 200mm and the outlines indicated represent a maximum reach that will only be achieved by a minority of wheelchair users

Vertical plane of reach of manual wheelchair user

with outstretched arm the wheelchair user can reach approximately 600mm behind them and 800mm in front reducing in distance as the arm gets nearer to the floor in both cases. Above their heads the distance is about 300mm.  With a bent arm the person's reach is much shorter at approximately 400mm in front of the body.
