5.6 Tactile paving

Platform edge (off street) warning surface

These are used at stations to give advance warning of the edge of railway platforms. The surface consists of offset rows of flat-topped domes and is generally available in rubber or concrete.

A single tile measuring 400mm square with flat-topped domes set in evenly spaced rows parallel to the direction of travel along platform. The offset of the domes is the direction of travel to train. Each dome is 22.5mm at the base, 15mm on the top and raised 5mm, plus or minus 0.5mm, from surface of the tile. Centre to centre spacing of domes is 66.5mm.
