Corduroy hazard warning surface

The purpose of the corduroy surface is to warn visually impaired people of the presence of hazards, such as stairs, level crossings or the approach to on-street light rapid transit (LRT) platform. Consisting of rows of parallel half-round bars moulded onto concrete paving. It conveys the message "hazard, proceed with caution".

A single tile measuring 400mm square with half round shaped protruding ribs set 90 degrees to direction of travel. Each rib 20mm in width and 6mm, plus or minus 0.5mm, proud of tile surface. Distance between ribs 50mm.

Information surface paving

The purpose of the information surface is to help people locate amenities, for example telephone boxes, bus stops or ticket offices (see taxi ranks and bus stops). The information surface does not have a raised profile but is detectable because it fells slightly softer underfoot than conventional paving materials. The surface should have a matt finish and be slip resistant.
