5.19 Footway diversion at road works

Diagram showing temporary guarding around a hole excavated in the pavement between a doorway and window in the adjacent building. The guarding comprises two rows of rails fixed into vertical posts with a sign indicating the direction pedestrians should take. There are temporary ramps at either side of the guarding at the kerb to allow passage onto the roadway, which now forms an extension of the footway. The roadway at this point is protected by another set of guard rails and a set of traffic cones. Vehicle direction signs are shown resting on the traffic cones placed at the start of the road diversion around the guard rails, in each direction.
