Subordinated side roads should preferably be one-way with some
carriageway narrowing. While there are no rules for selection of roads, it is
suggested that only relatively minor routes which carry, say, 60 to 100 vehicles
per hour during peak periods are suitable.
It must be noted that speed humps should be avoided wherever possible
when implementing traffic calming schemes. They can be painful for disabled
people and those with back problems travelling in cars, taxis and buses.
