8.5.9 Hydrotherapy pool

See fact sheets 6.10 Changing Facilities.

In larger schools with a number of disabled pupils, a hydrotherapy pool may be considered. This is obviously a specialist element and design would be considered in conjunction with changing and toilet facilities.

Hydrotherapy pools are used principally for medical treatment and exercise and their use may be specified on the statement of some pupils.

The hydrotherapy pool may be a stand alone facility. Preferably, the facilities including hoist, steps etc could be incorporated into a pool for inclusive use by all pupils.
