6.6 Corridor with a variety of doorways and recommended minimum clear dimensions

Plan of 1800mm wide corridor showing appliances and fittings such as radiators recessed into wall. Shaded areas on the plan indicate areas that require unobstructed space for approaching doors. The first door opens into the corridor and the shaded area extends from the opened door along the door entrance and 900mm further along the corridor. The next door opens into the room rather than the corridor and the shaded area extends as previous but only 500mm. The next door divides the corridor into two sections. The door itself is shown as 925mm clear opening set in a frame, or dividing wall. A 300mm nib is shown on the dividing wall between the corner with the corridor wall and the leading edge of the door. The shaded area on the side that the door opens in the corridor extends 1700mm, whilst on the other side of the dividing wall it extends 1200mm. Beyond this point the corridor opens out with one wall being splayed. A wheelchair user is indicated at this point and a note that the turning circle needed is 1500mm diameter.
