The use of temporary ramps may be required in some situations, for example
to give temporary access to a venue, to allow pedestrians to negotiate kerbs
around street works, and to give access to rail vehicles and taxis.
Ramps should be of stable construction, capable of sustaining a mass of 300kgs.
They should incorporate side lips and the surface should be slipresistant. Gradients
should be as gentle as the circumstances allow.
Except for permitted use with taxis, channel ramps are not acceptable on safety
grounds.
Unattended ramps, e.g. at street works, should be securely fixed, and contrast in colour and tone with their surroundings. If longer than 2000mm they should comply with the gradient requirements for external ramps.
