6.17 Hotel and motel bedrooms

Design criteria
At least one guest bedroom out of every 20, or part thereof, should be accessible
and suitable for a wheelchair user in terms of size, layout and facilities.
- The entrance door and other doors should have a minimum clear opening width
of 825mm and a minimum of 300mm clear space at the leading edge
- Doors to all other bedrooms should have a minimum clear opening width of
750mm
- The routes between the bedroom and the hotel entrance, reception and other
public areas should all be fully accessible
- En-suite facilities should include a wheelchair-accessible shower and shower
chair (see 6.10 Changing facilities)
- If the design of the accommodation is for all bedrooms without en-suite
sanitary facilities, then unisex facilities should be provided near accessible
bedrooms
- WC and basin to be arranged and equipped with grab rails etc. as in 6.9
Toilets.
