Accesscode: a Code of Practice on Access and Mobility

An advisory code of practice reflecting current statutory requirements and best practice within the UK for the design of buildings, structures, highways and transportation.

Aknowledgements

Accesscode is a joint project between Merseytravel; the five Merseyside Metropolitan Councils of Knowsley, Liverpool, St. Helens, Sefton, Wirral, Cheshter City Council; and the SURFACE Inclusive Design Research Centre at the University of Salford.

The Code provides guidance on the design and implementation of inclusive design for buildings, environments, structures, highways and transportation. The Code is based on the latest statutory requirements and current best practice. It is updated on a regular basis.

Accesscode is managed by a Steering Committee which represents the project partners. The Involvement of the SURFACE Inclusive Design Research Centre is supported through research projects under the EQUAL programme of the Engineering and Physical Research Council (EPSRC).

An electronic discussion list has been created to allow people interested in developing new material for the Code of Practice to debate issues prior to publication and it is called Accesscode. To be involved in the Code, or for any queries, please contact Professor Marcus Ormerod at the University of Salford m.ormerod@salford.ac.uk.
